The National Museum of Cambodia is located at Phnom Penh houses; it is the world’s largest collection of Khmer art. The museum was constructed by the French colonial authorities in 1917–20 in a traditional Khmer style.

Tourist Info:

·        Museum Timing: 8:00 am to 5:00 pm

·        Entry fee: $3.00.

·        Charges for taking photos in the inner courtyard: $1.00.

·        Taking photos inside the great museum is not allowed.

·        Guides for tourist are available in English, French, Japanese, Khmer, and Vietnamese for a cost of just $5.00.

·        Even one can purchase Tourist guide books by spending $3.00 only.

People from Cambodian sya that freetail bats lived in the rafters of this museum for so long. Later, they moved out in March 2002.

The architectural style of this famous National Museum has sculptures, which date from both of the pre-Angkorean and Angkorean eras. The museum is beautifully arranged in a terra-cotta roofed structure of traditional Cambodian design that was built around 1919.

According to Hab Touch who is the director of the museum, the national museum of Cambodia in Phnom Penh is the world’s largest exhibit of Khmer artifacts. There are more than 12,320 more pieces are still in the museum basement, waiting to be categorized and exhibited.

The national museum of Cambodia is divided into several categories, such as wood sculptures, ceramics stone, bronze, prehistoric items and ethnographic objects from the pre-Angkor, Angkor and post-Angkor times.  

There are many Buddhist images found on display. The set of Buddhist statues from Angkor Borei and Vat Romlok are one of the most important representations of Khmer Buddhist art in world history.
